Gypsy Scholar on Vampires…

Thought this post, on Gypsy Scholar, was great, and well timed for me, as I’ve just started several books regarding vampires!

Vampires have been on my mind quite a bit lately, as I’ve been in a position to repeatedly bring up David Niall Wilson’s This Is My Blood, a rendering of Mary Magdalene, THE VAMPIRE! Making [...]

Gospel of Judas Info…

Posted to the biblical-studies list from Eisenbrauns…

Appears the release date is on or about the 24th. While I couldn’t find anything on this on the NG site, or Eisenbrauns’ site, Amazon does have this listed. Amazon’s information appears to differ from that of Eisenbrauns. Amazon lists the The Gospel of Judas as having only 192 [...]

Hedgehog Folklore Database

Inspired by UCLA’s unbelievable Online Archive of American Folklore Medicine, tonight I created a database for hedgehog lore. Later this week I plan to create additional databases for prostitute (courtesan, etc, etc) lore and healing charms, and if they eventually amount to anything, will hopefully manage to put them online.

Databases seem to be much easier [...]

Greek Background

I’m learning Greek using William Mounce’s Basics of Biblical Greek. I’ve just recently started and as an aid for chapter 6, ‘Nominative and Accusative; Definite Article’, I created a black background with the first three charters from the chapter. Not all the accents are present as in the book, but I’m finding it useful just [...]

Prostitutes and Courtesans in the Ancient World

Amazon now lists Faraone and McClure’s book Prostitutes and Courtesans in the Ancient World being available on February 9th. For months I’ve looked forward to buying this title for myself on my birthday (previously it was listed to be released the day before I turned another year older). Oh well.

From the Amazon listing:

“This volume engages [...]

Women in the World of Jesus

The Jesus Creed blog has had a series of excellent and informative entries concerning ‘Women in the World of Jesus”, the five parts posted so far found here, here, here, here and here

Much of the series of posts are based on Tal Ilan’s work found in Jewish Women in Greco-Roman Palestine, an excellent title which [...]

my del.icio.us Page

Apparently I had more time on my hands than I realized tonight and ended up adding a page for my del.icio.us tags and links. I”m reasonably new to del.icio.us, so there isn”t a lot there, and some of the tags just don”t work because they consisted of more than one word. Thought it might be interesting to [...]

Adding Stuff

Added a number of items, including some bibliography pages for gematria and magdalene, and a resource page for vst development and a brief page with a few c++ and java resources. These are all works-in-progress.
